Petrarch’s Trionfi and the Birth of Tarot
Before Tarot became a language of divination, it was a language of destiny.
In fourteenth‑century Italy, the poet Petrarch wrote The Trionfi—a visionary sequence tracing the soul’s journey through Love, Death, Time, and Eternity.
A century later, Renaissance artists transformed this poetic ladder into a game of “triumphs,” the first Tarot decks known as Tarocchi.
These early cards were not designed to predict the future.
They were symbolic maps of human life—teaching virtue, power, loss, memory, and transcendence through play.
